As a fundamental form of aerobic training, walking has numerous physical benefits for the heart, lungs, and circulatory system, while also increasing muscle tone and burning fat calories. Treadmills provide a convenient way to regularly exercise in all weather conditions in the comfort and safety of your own home. From beginners just starting an exercise regimen to advanced athletes looking to maintain their fitness level, anyone interested in getting and staying in shape can benefit greatly from regular use of a treadmill. Treadmills allow you to determine the pace, distance, and complexity of the workout based on your needs, all while watching television, talking on the telephone, or reading a magazine. Much easier on sensitive joints like the knees and hips, treadmill walking and running surfaces are typically long, padded platforms that allow ample room for a long stride and comfortable, low-impact walk or jog without the harsh contact of a concrete surface. While many different types, styles, and price ranges of treadmills exist, many of them offer unique features like a fold-up design for easy storage, an electronic display monitor showing speed, distance, workout time, incline level, and burned calories, and EKG grip pulses to monitor the heart rate while exercising. Regardless of the simple to complex features you may choose, treadmills offer an array of aerobic exercise opportunities that will provide long-lasting beneficial cardiovascular results without a commute to the gym or a jog in the rain.

Walking November 10, 2008 P. Knight (Glen Allen, VA USA) I like the fact this is a small treadmill and can be stored, even though it is difficult with the arms on the sides. It also gives you a good workout since it is manual it is harder to walk on and takes some getting use to. Overall good product for what I personally wanted it for.
Excellent Customer Service October 15, 2008 Patrick T. Regan Amazon is awesome to deal with as was the vendor of this product. I had a slight issue with a mechanical problem, I called the vendor's customer service and they remedied my problem ASAP. Thanks to all for great service.
Well worth it. July 1, 2008 Richard M. France (Tampa, FL) I really like the Edge 500 Treadmill. It was a snap to put together. One thing I did to make storage easier was to leave off the side arms. This way I can place it up against the wall without them sticking out. I find that the front "handlebar" is enough to hang onto. So far there is no trouble with the tread tracking to one side or another. Also, the "computer readout" seems to be working fine.
There is more resistance to walking with this than the traditional electric treadmill. But I count this as a plus. I figure I'm working a little harder so I can cut down on my walking time to get the same exercise.
This treadmill is perfect for this time of year for me in Tampa where during the summer it is way to hot and humid to go walking outside. I just pull it up in front of the TV and go to it.
If there is a complaint it would be that the wheels are a little small. Sometimes when I move it to put it away they seem to bind up. But it still slides without any problem. I can live with that. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase.
Edge 500 Manual Treadmill Review June 26, 2008 Donald Slavin (New Jersey) The Edge 500 Manual Treadmill is a good value for those interested in a basic treadmill. It assembled easily and doesn't occupy much space. However, the belt often sticks while you are walking throwing your pace off. I purchased this item for my wife since I belong to a health club where the tredmills are electric and provide a constant pace.
Exactly What I Wanted! April 21, 2008 Emoni Haydes (California) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This thing is great! I was looking for something inexpensive, sturdy, and affordable, that I could fold up. To be honest, once I had this put together (which was fairly simple) I didn't really want to fold it up. I really love this treadmill; it is certainly a great workout and it's entirely self powered which is so convenient (just get on and go).
It's really not loud at all when you are just walking on it (all you hear is the sound of the belt moving which isn't loud). You can easily walk on it and watch TV at the same time with no trouble hearing and it doesn't wake anyone up if I'm on it while they're sleeping. The only time it gets a little loud is if you are running fast on it.
I LOVE to walk, and it's how I get most of my exercise (it's one of the few exercises that isn't a drag to do) but weather conditions and outdoor allergies don't always allow for long walks. With this I get plenty of exercise and I really enjoy using this machine; and there are absolutely no excuses not to jump on and use it.
One last note; I know a few people have had issues with their digital readers (which I wasn't all that concerned with because that's not why I was buying it) but I haven't had any problems at all with the digital reader on this, it works just great.
